Nonprofit associations need to do more with less. That’s an even bigger challenge today given post-COVID staffing shortages and tighter budgets. So, who do you turn to for help when members continue to expect the world and demand you deliver it?

Smart Association Management … that’s who!

Engaging members is key to the success of every association. It’s how you show value and earn loyalty. That’s why it’s important for organizations to get it right, from onboarding to everything that comes after.

Consider implementing these Smart Tips to influence how new members understand and use their benefits day one, and over the long-term.

Tip 1: Get personal

Reach out with a personal email, a quick web meeting or even a phone call. New members want to know you’re glad they joined. Establishing a rapport goes a long way in developing the relationship. Plus, it’s quick and easy to do.

Tip 2: Say “hey buddy”

Recruit some of your current members to provide casual, friendly support to new members. People like having someone they can reach out to. This personalized approach shows you care and demonstrates that every member matters. Period.

Tip 3: Keep in touch

Stay connected and keep new members engaged, send an email six months in, and one toward the end of the year. This easy-to-do tip goes a long way with member retention. Emails, which should be short and sweet, also provide you with an opportunity to “market” the benefits of membership: education, events, networking, resources, etc.

New members need to feel welcome and important. Do it right and you’ll hear something similar to what Dorothy Boyd said to Jerry McGuire …

“You had me at hello.”
